Green Hills

Associate Librarian Sally Klepper is a creative soul. She shares with us two poems she wrote as a teenager when she seems to have had a special relationship with green hills!

These days, much of Sally’s creativity is dedicated to the children she serves in the Children’s Department. Sally teaches the Step-up Club for pre-schoolers with stories, crafts, music and Mr. Mouse, a very shy puppet.  We give Sally a wide berth on April 1 when her creativity turns devious - she is a very successful April’s Fool prankster.

Sally wrote this first poem at age 15:

Spring Mist

The flowers bloom in spring

I guess it’s just another wonderful thing

The pretty distant waters make the scene

Of the hills so sweet and green.

and as a junior in high school, for her first love:

For the One Whom I Shall Always Love

He is the sun so bright with esteem.

He is the hill so sweet and green.

He is the one that appears in my dreams.

He is the one that is never mean.

His eyes seem to say sweet words and loving wishes

and very sweet are his kisses.

I crave for the presence of this most endowing figure

and hope he will always run to me in vigor!

Because I am writing this to the one whom I shall always love!
